People do strange things on public roads, including highways, like in this traffic camera footage with an incredible outcome. This is why we argue that one of the worst things you can do while behind the wheel is to be distracted or swerve, because you always have to be prepared for just about anything.
Watch as a fleeing Lexus GX rolls over a trooper cruiser.
The images come from Missouri on I-70 and along Van Brunt Blvd in the Kansas City metro area. It was the night of September 3, just before 9:30 am, when we saw someone driving nice and slowly up the driveway with their turn signal active.
Then the person simply stops at the end of the driveway, apparently waiting for a gap so he can merge into the right lane on the highway. We’ve seen people do this kind of thing before and it’s maddening since we were taught that you need to get to highway speed on the on-ramp so you can just merge without any problem.
But this person doesn’t. They go slowly, stop and then wait. And not the driver behind them.
Instead, that driver is driving at a good pace, like what you should be doing in a driveway. But that driver doesn’t see the stationary car and crashes straight into it, resulting in quite a crash that slows traffic as the two wrecked vehicles weave across the three lanes.
Tell us the second driver was paying attention, we challenge you. It is very clear that this was not the case, otherwise they would have seen the stationary car and applied the brakes in time to avoid the collision, or at least not make it nearly as bad.
So who’s to blame here: the person who just stopped in the driveway or the driver who hit them because he wasn’t paying attention? Tell us what you think and ask your friends who they think caused this accident.
