An excited man tries to figure out whether he should improve the etiquette of his roommates or if it’s game over for their living arrangements.
The man asked on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum if he is wrong for playing video games after midnight while his roommate sleeps.
“I work the evening shift and go home at noon,” the gamer began, before describing the sounds he makes with his keyboard and voice while wearing Sony noise-canceling headphones.
“I have a mechanical keyboard and I game and talk quietly with friends at night,” he continued. “My roommate lives in a separate room. … She sleeps very lightly and says I make too much noise.”
He then delved deeper into using his mechanical keyboard, which has louder keystrokes than that of a membrane keyboard.
“She actually doesn’t want me to use my keyboard even though I bought o-rings for it (it’s an accessory to muffle the sound) and put a blanket on the wall opposite her room,” he added . “She doesn’t want me talking at night either.”
He responded to his roommate’s concerns by saying, “It’s not my problem,” which he said made her “very upset.”
“I finally told her that it’s reasonable to want me to be quiet at night, but I’m not going to be silent, we both pay rent and we both have rights,” the gamer said. “She said I’m not quiet. I told her it’s not my problem right now and she got very upset. I don’t know what she’s up to now. AITA [Am I the A——]?”

Fellow Redditors were quick to respond to his situation, with the majority writing: “YTA [You’re the A——]”, and give their reasoning.
“Mechanical keyboard? Real? That’s annoying, even if you’re not trying to sleep. YTA,” one person commented.
Another reader wrote: “YTA. I’m also a light sleeper and I’ve been close to psychosis before as I would wake up repeatedly throughout the night and be kept awake by things like our pets making noise in the house or neighbors playing loud music. It’s torture.”
“YTA,” said a third Redditor. “Let’s face it: you’re a narcissist looking for enough yes-men to take your side so you can take this to her and make her believe she’s the problem. She’s not. You are.”
